Barefoot Cay Marina

This is an overhead shot that our buddy, cu-tdog, took as he was flying out of Roatan headed back home. If you look closely, our boat is in the middle on the left side of pic. The palapa that I posted on this site the first day I arrived is the one sitting at the end of the long pier in pic above.

We've been here since Monday afternoon. Cap'n had some things to fix on the boat and I some ray catching to do by the lovely pool here. And finish my book! Tonight, we went to the home of one of the gals who works in the marina. Very different, I have to say. Her house almost looks like a treehouse! She prepared spinach filled crepes and rice/veggies. It was a fun adventure!

We are meeting friends at the airport tomorrow at noon and plan to "sail away" by 2 pm!

Since last I wrote, we have anchored at West End in Roatan and then moved about a mile down to West Bay for Sunday night. West Bay is, I know....as crazy as it sounds..., the western point of Roatan!! And for all my friends who know me well...yes, I'm still getting the map out every single day trying to figure out where I am! Knew THAT would surprise ya..heh! West End is a divers town. Fun to just find a shady spot and watch the dive boats and divers come in and go out. We walked the town and then found that shady spot on the beach to just sit and enjoy the sites....if you know what I mean?!! Dive masters are pretty easy on the eyes, whether they be male or female!

West Bay is a more upscale area with loads of resorts and beaches. We even visited the place where Temptation Island was filmed! The sand is white and the water is a very turquois blue and of course, crystal clear. Enjoyed two live bands on the beach and had cerviche....jbruce would be proud. So much fresh lime juice in it! And finally I had my whole fried fish! Kind of a joke - I always love the big whole fish....meaning fish fried with the head ON! and everyone always gets grossed out. Cept for my middle child ~ he likes 'em too.

Came back early to boat. But about 10:30 the musica began.....and I mean, it sounded like the drums were on the front of the boat. I looked out the window to see the fireshow being held on the beach. Um.....did I say loud? I should have said deafening. So, off to bed I went with i-pod plugged into my ears. I figured if I was going to listen to music all night, it may as well be mine!!

Left about 10am for our trip back to Barefoot Cay marina....about a 2 hr ride. And for the rest of the day? Me? and my big ol' butt by the pool ALL afternoon. Really wish I could say I accomplished something today but I really can't say it! Oh wait.....did throw some chicken in the water at the end of the dock to a Moray eel that was about 6 ft long and a couple of huge lobsters and a sea snake!! But other than that? Nah...can't say I did much more!!!

Our "plan" is to stay here till Thursday and get the boat cleaned up. We have some friends coming to stay for a week, which will be fun! We've mapped out alot of stuff to do and places to take them. We'll see how solid that plan stays!! Then the baby boy.....oh, ok..he's my firstborn and almost 30...but they're all still babies, right? will get here after that with my daughter in law and some friends of theirs. (that would be our other set of chirren!) So, it will be a busy and fun few weeks! Maybe I should rest up, eh?? HAHAHAHAHA!!

Choices are tough....hmm. Sombody's gotta do it tho!!

After Sunset at West End, Roatan...

Change of Plans!

For my children that know us so well, especially Amy!!, we all know that 'mccormick' and 'stay with the plan' don't always go hand in hand! The "plans" that I wrote of yesterday had changed by the time I got up this morning. New plan? Crank 'er up and hit the road...er, water~~! Cap'n decided that we should leave early and go to Pollytilly Bight to check out the beaches over there. So, we did! Hey.....the cap'n knows the weather patterns and the forecasts....I just get up, put my bathing suit on and say Aye Aye cap'n!! Well.....some of the time that's what I say. Heh! Beautiful morning. I'm amazed at the cool breezes we've had. Never have we been hot or had to think of using A.C. So, for 2 hrs, we rode in happy mode to our next destination. Have to give it to the captain....been some really tight spots to get into these anchorages around the reefs. He just drives this baby in like it's a lil VW! As you saw in previous pic, we did run across a line today that got caught up in the motors. Matt, our second son laughed and said...."Well, I guess after a month, it's time you got in the water!!" (to cut the line from the motor) I think the boys usually tend to that kind of stuff when they're here!
Soon after anchor, we dinghy....or dinky as the daughter in law calls it!.....to Punta Gorda for some grilled lobster. YUM. Then back to move the boat over to Milton's Bight, where we are anchored for the night. Such a beautiful place. Had dinner ashore in their restaurant and we are just amazed at how little the great foods cost here. You can have a really great meal in a beautiful restaurant and you don't feel like you've been screwed, ya know? Like in some of the places at home?
And as I mentioned to some friends earlier? The icing on the cake to these delicious meals in these pretty places? We get to ride back to our home in the dinky under the most brilliant star-lit sky imaginable. Every night has been crystal clear with a moon as big as the sky!

I am one lucky girl!!

1/2 inch poly line on one propeller is bad enough while negotiating reef cuts.
But line on both propellers?? Could get serious!!!

Whew! We're back on the island of Roatan. The cap'n haphazardly mentioned yesterday that maybe I should catch a puddle jumper back to Roatan from Utilla Island. Yep...know what that means...that means that it might be a rough sail back to Roatan. Hmmmmmmmm....I didn't say anything, just shook my head and said hmmmmmm. But as ya'll all know, I'm a big girl now since I walked across that frickin' bridge so I just went with the flow. Plan was to leave early this morning and since I sleep like a baby when the motor is running, we could be most of the way there by the time I woke up!! I did hear the dinghy start up to take the perro to shore and I did smell the coffee brewing and I did feel the boat rockin' but *snort* I really did sleep thru most of it!! I heard the engines shut down and came up only to find the cap'n not only driving the boat but fishing!! And catching a nice mauhi-mauhi!!! Heh. He is cleaned and in the freezer now!(the fish, not the cap'n!)

Well, they charge said dolphin kissers 75 smackeroos to engage in such activity. But moi, I, just got out the ol' binoculars and watched all the dolphin activity I could handle for a great big nuthin'!! Sorry, amy...I know how you love to swim with 'em but I just couldn't see that money going out so quickly. So, tomorrow, I'll get the 'big' lens out and get some shots for ya! And the funny thing? Tonight, when we were dinghying back from eating dinner, we could hear and see them playing and jumping and so we heard from the dolphin trainers........mating!!
We spent the day walking and exploring the area. Also searching for beaches for buddies when they come to visit. And tomorrow?? A visit to the Butterfly Farm..vera excited about that!! And don't worry you sailors.........even tho he's doing all this stuff with me, he's still getting to fly those sails in the most gorgeous weather and fair winds imaginable!

So.........I leave you tonight... while the most beautiful moon is shining down upon slow, rippling waters... with a picture of the 'baby' that I took from a place where we had burgers for lunch...
